Writer Richard Matheson did not approve of changes that were made to the plot. In Matheson's original short story and script, the woman's spouse is killed when she pushes the button. He had his writing credit changed to the pseudonym Logan Swanson due to his displeasure.

Richard Matheson's Button, Button had previously been adapted as a radio play titled The Chinaman Button for CBS Radio Theater in 1974.

The segment Button, Button was adapted as the feature film The Box (2009). The film adaption was based on the Twilight Zone episode rather than Richard Matheson's original short story. The movie expanded on the events presented in the television segment.

This episode was broken up for syndication. The segment Need to Know was instead paired up with the segment The After Hours. Red Snow was given its own episode in syndication.
