Carl Kolchak is a muckraking reporter working for a news service in Chicago. In many cases, his investigating strange murders dig up evidence of supernatural forces, of which his long-suffering-editor and city officials ridicule and oppress. In Jeff Rice's original novel upon which The Night Stalker (1972) was based, Carl Kolchak was a large man of Rumanian and Polish decent. His given name was "Karel", which was Americanized into "Carl."
