Summary
Following the success of TV movies The Night Stalker (1972) and The Night Strangler (1973) , Darren McGavin returns in the role of reporter Carl Kolchak. After being run out of Seattle, Washington, Carl and Tony Vincenzo (Simon Oakland) find work with the Independent News Service (I.N.S.) in Chicago, Illinois. Kolchak's encounters with the supernatural seem to escalate in his new job. While his stories continue to be met with disbelief or are just outright blocked by bureaucracy, he does manage to find a few new temporary allies in his new adventures into the unknown. | Submitted By: Tom G

Quotes
"I wasn't too choked up with Vincenzo sending me to an alderman's press conference, so when I caught the police report of two bodies being found on the I.S.T. campus lake, it gave me an excuse. That and running out of gas, which I didn't plan."

Trivia
The first (and only) season of Kolchak: The Night Stalker had originally been intended to have a total of 22 episodes. It ended prematurely at 20. The twenty-first episode would have been called Eve of Terror. The script (written by Stephen Lord and Michael Kozoll) had Kolchak pitted against a female version of Doctor Jekyll and Mister Hyde. The only other completed script at the time of cancellation was titled The Get of Belial. This second script (by Donn Mullally) had a faith healer whose son was cursed by the devil himself. The script was never given the green light and likely would not have been part of the first season of Kolchak even if the season had run to completion. Both of these scripts were finally released in graphic novel form by Moonstone Books - Get of Belial in 2003 and Eve of Terror in 2005.

Most likely the twenty-second episode of the series would have had Kolchak dealing with a monster on the set of The Phantom of the Opera (1925). The apparently untitled script (by David Chase) wasn't complete when the show was cancelled.
