Well, I finally found out why so many people rave about Dario Argento. I've seen a few of his films like Trauma, Phenomenon, and Susperia and, while I liked them, I wasn't overly impressed by the direction. But I bought 'Deep Red' in widescreen VHS the other day and watched it over the weekend. I thought it was terrific in every way, especially Argento's direction. By far his best, at least of the ones I've seen.
Yeah, it is a great movie. Argento's sort of a modern day Hitchcock with a flare for gothic cinematography. I love his stuff, even though some of his films are better than others. Check out Inferno too.
I agree! A exciting, intriguing, well-paced film, with none of Argento's occasional weakness for loopy, wayward plots. I especially love how the killer's identity is staring you in the face, if only you know where to look. Audacious stuff.
