It's a great little movie. Obviously, people need to understand the more understated nature of UK Horror movies. We don't have the budget to build spectacular killing machines of the SAW variety but what we do very well is to tap into the ancient past in our films.
You don't need millions to feed off the pagan memories that surround us. That's why The Wickerman is so good. It's why the upcoming Wake Wood is utterly chilling and it's why Outcast is a success.
I like to think of it this way... A few seconds thought can bring to mind numerous old religion traditions and folksy calender events that have their roots in something darker and more primal. Morris Dancing, Corn Dollies, chasing a cheese down a hill or carrying a burning barrel on your back. If these harmless traditions still linger, then it's a possibility that the darker side of it lingers as well. These films feed off that.
Anyway... Enough pondering. If you're still not convinced, there's a clip reel on my blog. Check out the clip titled "Lost Forever" for a gore-free chills.
Hope you enjoy it. It's a modest movie but it has tons of good ideas and a moment when a gypsies curse robs a cival servant of her memory which is really chilling.
