Not long ago AMC had "The Omega Man" on as one of their Charlton Heston celebrations.

This film has MANY parallells to "The Last Man On Earth" with Vincent Price, with a few exceptions, one being that "LMOE" was made years before "The Omega Man".

Also, "Last Man On Earth" may have been one of George Romero's inspirations for "NOTLD".

Anyone who has seen this film will understand this point.

Anyway, Omega Man is good in the FX department, and the storyline isn't that bad either, and even has a group of mutants who hate technology and use medieval inventions instead!

Anyone ever seen this one? It's different, I tell ya'.

Stay well,
Shawn

How'd you like the Messiah ending with Heston crucifixion after giving his blood to save mankind? Anyhow, both movies are considered movie versions of the novel, 'I Am Legend', by Richard Matheson.

I think George was inspired by a few movies. 'Last Man on Earth" and 'Carnival of Souls' are the most obvious.

I never thought of it before but Heston made quite a few good sci-fi movies in the Seventies. 'Planet of the Apes' ("Get your hands off me, you damned, dirty ape!"), 'Omega Man', 'Soylent Green' ("It's people!!")

It's me again, I liked The Omega Man ok but I didn't like the way Anthony Zerbe's leader was kind of like Charles Manson. He called his followers "the family", remember? I liked "Last Man On Earth" even though it was sort of low budget. I wouldn't be surprised if George Romero did see this. Both films were based on the same novel by the way. It's called "I Am Legion" or "I Am Legend" by Richard Matheson.

See ya when the wolfbane blooms, BC

Hey BC!

"We are legion, for we are Many" is a passage from the Bible.

It is the reply that was given by a possessed person in response to the question "Who are you"?

I am not up on my Biblical studies, and I am not sure if it was Jesus or one of the Disciples that asked the question, but I do know the reply.

Also, in the 3rd high tech 90's style Gammera movie "Gammera Vs. Legion", they touched on this piece of Biblical passage too.

Just a little liner about the phrase "I am Many" or "We Are Many".

Very interesting that these movies came about from a novel. I'll have to check it out sometime.

Thanks for the info!

YEAH, I nearly forgot about the others.

To coincide with the re-release of the "Apes" series on video, Polar Lights models has also re-released the old Aurora Planet Of The Apes model kits too!

I got em' all, and they look a heck of a lot better NOW than when I was 5.

Yes Omega Man did end the same way, with the band of survivors branding Heston as a butcher the same way they did Price in "LMOE".

Heston is a good actor, and has definitely left his mark on the industry: from Moses to Col. Taylor, he's done it all!

See ya soon,
Shawn

I read in some movie magazine recently that Tim Burton is slated to film a remake of "Planet of the Apes". He may be working on it now. Should be interesting...

It sounds very interesting, and I would really like to see the makeup NOW, considering how good the ORIGINAL was.

I'd get Rick Baker to do it, as he really knows his stuff, as well as his credits and vast experience. He is really fantastic.

This is off the track a bit, but do you remember the one episode of "Lost In Space"?

Major West and Dr. Smith were on a prison planet chain gang, and the guy they were chained to looked like Dr. Zaius from "POTA".

I recently spoke to Mark Goddard at a convention, who played West on "LIS", and he pointed out to me that that piece of ape makeup was done by some of the SAME people who worked on "POTA".

If you see the episode, you can definitely see the resemblance.

Small world, isn't it?

See ya' soon,
Shawn
