I went to my local bookstore, hoping to pick up the latest by Ketchum called "THE LOST" but left empty handed. Leisure's release date is May. Anybody know when in May? It's about time this writer shared some shelf space with the likes of King and Koontz. Just a great writer! What does the board think?

Favorite- Girl Next Door, then OFF SEASON

I don't know when Leisure's edition of The Lost will be released but I suspect that the ltd. editions from Cemetary Dance will appear first. They are also due sometime in May.

Ketchum is a wonderful writer and one of my favorites. Ladies Night was the first book of his I read immediately followed by Right To Life. They hooked me. Since then I've gone through Cover, The Dust of The Heavens, Exit At Toledo Blade Boulevard, Off Season, Hide and Seek, Red, The Girl Next Door, and numerous short stories. Right now I'm finishing up a novella in the newly released Night Visions 10 called The Passenger and loving every word. He tells a story that can be gut-wrenching, gripping, poignant, sad, humerous, and terrifying all at the same time and has usually had me running the gamut of every emotion known. The Girl Next Door and Right To Life still haunt me.

Ketchum, like several other authors of the genre, have had trouble in the past getting their works published in their original form either due to the subject matter or the descriptions of the violence in them. I feel that this has been a major factor in these authors not being as widely read and known in this country. With the advent of the small presses we are now fortunate in being able to have access to these unexpurgated versions as the authors intended them and hopefully their popularity will increase.

I can't choose a favorite Ketchum story - I love all of them.

Leisure books tend to hit the shelves around the 10th of the month, though you can get them a bit earlier if you join their club.

Ketchum is great. Though I do wish he would write more that are coser to his earlier subject matter.

Jack Ketchum is definitely one of my favorites. My two favorite Ketchum books would have to be THE GIRL NEXT DOOR and then OFF SEASON.

According to both amazon.com and barnesandnobel.com THE LOST has already started shipping. I asked a clerk at my local B&N and he said that the book would most likely be hitting the shelves today. So, I'll be heading over there sometime mid afternoon. James Ellroy's new novel THE COLD SIX THOUSAND is also supposed to be coming out today.
