I just finished up Edward Lee and Elizabeth Steffen's Dahmer's Not Dead. As the title would suggest, it's about the possibility that Jeffry Dahmer wasn't killed in prison, but was smuggled out in a monstrous conspiracy, set free to resume his grisly, cannibalistic murders. Murders are committed, witht he same MO as Dahmer, with his fingerprints present. Notes are left and police computers prove that they were written by Dahmer himself. Finally, his grave is exhumed, but it isn't America's most notorious seria killer who resides in it.
Lee and Steffen previously wrote the killer (No pun intended) novel, Portrait of the Psychopath as a Young Woman, and Dahmer's Not Dead is a worthy follow up. It's a convincingly exectued police thriller, but it's not steeped in technical jargon that the story bogs down at all. Dahmer's Not Dead is well worth your reading hours.
An aside: Edward Lee recently suffered an attack of acute hypertension. He was hospitalized and nearly died. He lost the vision in his left eye. In a recent interview, he said something to the effect of: "Don't be an asshole like me. Get your blood pressure checked REGULARLY!".

Hiya,Mark.
Wow. Is the loss of vision in that eye permanent? Hope not and glad he's o.k.
Yes,DAHMERS NOT DEAD is a corker. I'm glad you finally got to read it; I know your plate is full these days.

The doctors have hope, but they're not sure.

I just finished Night In The Lonesome October and absolutely loved it and have started Night Visions 10 which recently arrived. Just had to read something new (to me, anyway) by Jack Ketchum. His stories really get me going.
I'll make Dahmer's Not Dead my next book. Lee & Steffan collaborated quite well on Portrait...... and I've heard only good things about this novel.
Having worked exclusively with eye surgeons for the last year and a half, I tend to go along with the fact that the damage to Lee's eye will be permanent, especially if the hypertension ruptured the retinal vessels. But, we'll see (no pun intended) since the actual diagnosis hasn't been revealed. Will hope for the best.

Yeah, I always thought that DAHMER'S NOT DEAD had a really cool premise. Still, there's just so much that needs to be read at the moment. It will just have to wait.
Brad, I really loved NIGHT IN THE LONESOME OCTOBER. It took a little time to get going but once it did it was a rip roaring ride. Glad to see you enjoyed it as well.

Wow. I'll have to check this book out. I like what-if? type of stories. For a minute there, when I saw the name of the post I thought that Herbert West (Re-Animator) had brought Dahmer back from the grave. Phew! I feel much better now.
