I'll go with you on this one Katie. I'd say that 1984 is horror. When I read it way back in high school it gave me a pretty big paranoid scare. I just love that

Well, I guess i have to weigh in on this one, but I think, to me, horror, is anything that makes you feel terrified and makes you reach out for the hands of the ones you love and hope you don't feel bones instead. I find more horror in movies like Taxi Driver and in books like Helter Skelter than I do on any movie screen... I think what I find in these movies is a tempering of fear mixed in with the generally accepted version and definition of horror. I find horror in the oddest places, such as nature videos... the cruelty of the natural world is just plain frightening to me. But maybe I'm wrong?

I don't think you're wrong at all Phango. Personally, I'm right with you on this one.

"...to me, horror is anything that makes you feel terrified and makes you reach out for the hands of the ones you love and hope you don't feel bones instead."
Amen, my eloquent sister, amen.
BTW - since you mentioned "Helter Skelter" - have you ever read "The Ultimate Evil" by Maury Terry? A lot of people scoff at this book, but I find some of it highly plausible. Mostly it's about the Son of Sam case, but there are references to the Manson Family as well. Whether you believe in it or not, it's a scary, scary book.
Bye now,
RomanyX
P.S. -Mr. SA: (regarding your response to my previous post) Point taken. I keep forgetting how "corporate" everything is these days.
Best,
R

"...living in a town overrun by Baptists..."
Now THAT'S what I call SCARY! ;^)
But seriously, if you can't find it, or if you'd just rather, I have an extra copy I could send you. If want to E-mail me an address, I can send it off before the weekend.
If you're wary about giving personal info to strangers, 'tho, that's cool - I won't be offended.
Bye now,
RomanyX
