I have never before heard of this writer but when I recently saw a copy of his novel STAINLESS in the stores I felt the strong impulse to pick it up. It's about a guy who gets hooked up with this mystery girl who is compelled to kill at times. Anybody know what "Less Than Zero" is about? According to The New York Times Book Review STAINLESS is a kind of satanic LTZ.
Seems like a really fast and slack read in a wicked love story fashion.

Another book by Todd Grimson is BRAND NEW CHERRY FLAVOUR.

You know Fenny, I've seen both STAINLESS and BRAND NEW CHERY FLAVOR at the bookstore and I too had an impulse to buy them but I didn't. I've never heard anything about this guy but those two books sure look nice. If you like STAINLESS, I might go ahead and buy them. Easton Ellis' LESS THAN ZERO? I know the book but nothing about it. Sorry Fen.

I bought Brand New Cherry Flavor in hardcover at Barnes & Noble for about 6 bucks. i started it, but didn't get very far. It just seemed like another oh-so-hip neo-vampire book. Maybe it's good, but I couldn't get into it.

I read Less Than Zero and I didn't like it all that much. It was okay, just very vague and pretentious. A lot of people liked it, and that's cool. It's just not my keg of beer.

Hey Mark, here's a question for you. Did Doug Winter do a good job at using Ellis' style from LESS THAN ZERO for his short story "Less Than Zombie?"

Mr. SA,

I'm a big fan of everything Douglas Winter writes. Yes, his Less Than Zombie was an excellent pastiche of Brett Easten Ellis' style. It's really funny, cause if you've read Less Than Zero, the characters all act like zombies. Bright Lights, Big Zombie is great too. I still haven't read The Zombies of Madison County yet, but I now have an anthology with it in it. As you may or may not know, Thomas Monteleone's Borderlands Press is doing a collection of Winter's zombie stories called American Zombie. At the rate Monteleone puts 'em out, expect it in about 5 years.

Yeah, I love Winter's writing as well, although I have yet to read RUN. I read about the AMERICAN ZOMBIE collection a long time ago and I'm still waiting for some more news. "The Zombies of Madison County" is actually my favorite of his zombie stories.
