Thank You Mr. Postman.

Today in the mail I received a kind package from www.amazon.co.uk containing Kim Newman's two newest short story collections, SEVEN STARS and UNFORGIVABLE STORIES. They look great but I think I'll read SEVEN STARS first since it was recommended to me by a friend on another webpage as being one of the best single author collections ever. That's quite a statement considering that I've been reading THE ORIGINAL DR. SHADE AND OTHER STORIES (kindly given to me by our own Fenster) and it is great.

MrSA-

Does the collection "Seven Stars" relate at all to "The Jewel of the Seven Stars" by Bram Stoker? Or, is it just seven stories?

Deena, how very observant of you. "Seven Stars" is the name of the collection but it is also the name of Newman's novella which originally appeared in sections in Stephen Jones' anthology DARK DETECTIVES. Newman structured the story after Bram Stoker's THE JEWEL OF THE SEVEN STARS.

Now you only miss FAMOUS MONSTERS to have a complete Newman collection collection! :^)

And yeah, the postman is a fine man deserving of our gratitude...

Yeah, MrSA, I'm pretty observant. When do I get my gold star?

Yep, I'm on the hunt for FAMOUS MONSTERS but it's a slippery one.

Deena, I give you **** out of ***** because even though you are an excellent horror student nobody is perfect...except me of course. I give myself ***** just for being so cool Smile Ahhhhhhh, got to love that modesty.

On another "Thank You Mr. Postman" note, today I received yet another package. This one contained two books by our fellow board poster Steve Savile. 1st: SCAREMONGERS 2: REDBRICK EDEN. I didn't realize that this anthology had so many great authors--Ramsey Campbell, Simon Clark, Christopher Fowler, Kim Newman, Stephen Laws, Tim Lebbon, Mark Morris, Peter Crowther, Steve Savile, and many others. Way to edit Steve!

The 2nd book is actually a chapbook of Steve's called ICARUS DESCENDING. This baby contains two of Steve's stories, "Remember Me Yesterday" and "Icarus Descending."

Can't wait to get started.
