This must be my favorite month of the year for television. It's my favorite month, anyway, but this month promises more horror on tv, more up-all-night marathons of b-rated, grindhouse mayhem, and more made for television, God-awful Lifetime station epics of daytime drama actor madness than I can fit into an entire year.
This month I will surely see Halloween and all of its sequels. I'll hope to see oldies like "The Bermuda Depths", or "This House Possessed", or "Midnight Offerings". The original Pumpkinhead will come on. If I'm really lucky, then someone will broadcast the old oldies, like Browning's Freaks or The Wolfman.
The best night, of course, is the 31st. After the kids come back from Trick or Treating and I've handed out candy to dozens of ghosties and ghoulies, we'll sit around and split up the candy (I will steal the Starburst), and make popcorn. Then, we'll surf the tube until bedtime. I'll pour a Grand Marnier (because nothing says class like Grand Marnier and commercial-grade candy stuck to the roof of your mouth), settle in with candles instead of lights, and me and my bulldog will cuddle while watching the movie of our choice. _________________ Work is the curse of the drinking class. |

Couldn't agree more. TVNow used to have (up until quite recently) a page dedicated to all the horror films on TV in a given month, but it appears to be toast. I used that page religiously.
Right now, I am more jazzed by the offbeat documentaries (ghosts, haunted places, etc.) that always populate the airwaves this time of year. Partially for our new section, but also because I get a kick out of those shows. |

Speaking of, I could kick myself for not visiting the Waverly Sanitorium when we lived in Kentucky a few years ago.
I was right down the road and didn't try to get an overnight tour. When we watched Session Nine, I became very interested in the place, and then dropped the ball. Every time it's on tv, I make a point to smack myself.
Surely there will be a special on it soon again. _________________ Work is the curse of the drinking class. |

ABC Family is going to hold a Scariest Places on Earth marathon towards the end of the month and I am sure their Waverly episode will be on it.
Session 9 was actually shot at the Danvers State Hospital in Massachusetts. Waverly was used for a movie called Death Tunnel. I saw a documentary on Waverly by the filmmakers with tidbits of their film thrown in, which made me lose interest in watching the film.
I went to Waverly Hills on the daytime tour, since I couldn't get my schedule straight to get their for their nighttime stayover. However, I still had a blast - Interesting place. Didn't see anything out of the ordinary, but I had a good time exploring the facility. Also stayed at the "haunted" Seelbach in Louisville that night. Came up empty there too, but still got a kick out of it. |

That's right! Danvers. How could forget that? Whatsface, the redhead from the movie (first season NYPD Blue), was interviewed and reported that the roof of the place felt downright sinister.
Well, that's another place to read about. Thank you. _________________ Work is the curse of the drinking class. |

| I had a co-worker at my last job that would watch CSI: Miami just to laugh at David Caruso's stupid one-liners. After she mentioned it, I noticed what she was talking about on every commercial thereafter... Now I am not sure if I could ever watch Session 9 again without laughing. |

Halloween night was awesome.
Here's me scoping out some candy. I look cross-eyed, and that's fine. I was eyeballing those Swedish Fish.
And here's my daughter. She was a dead bride. I made her dress. One dollar a yard fabric is the shizzit!
I got candy, and watched a ton of Halloween movies (myers666 would approve for sure), and got semi-sloshed on expensive wine. Sat outside for awhile and enjoyed the weather. For once, it got warmer instead of colder, which is good.
It sucks to put a coat over your costume.
The best part of the night was sitting in the dark with my bulldog and eating candy while our candles and pumpkins burned on the front porch. All was good.
Maybe next year I'll go TP-ing. _________________ Work is the curse of the drinking class. |
