I finally caught up on the rest of the shows and enjoyed them. I was really sceptical of The Black Cat since it is one of my favorite Poe tales, but really liked how they merged it into Poe's life.

Also, The Washingtonians was so ridiculous, it was hilarious. I love those totally offbeat stories.

I'm a big fan of 'Supernatural.' The main characters have good chemestry together and I like the fact that they don't shy away from monsters.

I was a huge fan of 'Blade: The Series.' Thought it totaly kicked the ass of 'Blade III' and it just kept getting better and better. They even pushed the boundries of comercial TV with nudity and gore. It pissed me off that they ended the series on a cliff hanger, however. I would buy this series on DVD if they made a movie to tie up the cliff hanger, but not until.

Loved Karnival, but only got to see the first season. I no longer had HBO by the second season. I would consider buying this on DVD but it sounds like it also ends on a cliff hanger, so why bother.

I was really digging 'Surface.' Bummer that it got cancelled. It also ended on somewhat of a cliff hanger, but at least it wound down and the story arc came to an end rather than just cutting off like 'Blade' did.

I've been catching 'Masters Of Horror' on DVD as they have been getting released. I think half of them are pretty good while the other half are pretty week. It seems to be about 50/50. I'm only two episodes into season two, and I liked 'Pelts' and was bored to tears by 'Family.'

I'm a big fan of 'Lost' as well. I've only ever missed one episode where Hurly finds a VW bus. This past season started out kind of slow (where Jack, Kate & Sawyer or held captive) but the writers have started to reveal some of the secrets of the island and it's really picked back up. I hope this show ends before it gets cancelled.

I can't say enough good things about Supernatural. I only hope that the CW realizes what they have with this series and give us another season (or ten).

I was really surprised when this got canceled. Then again, I have no idea what the production costs were. Like you, I really enjoyed it. I thought the first movie in the series really introduced a fascinating epic idea and that the sequels kind of lost sight of that. The series returned to it and rebuilt this "world" as it were, which allowed for ample avenues of exploration. It was really cutting edge entertainment for a non-premium cable channel. It is a shame that it won't continue.

While the first season was great, the second season... Oh my. Simply one of the best seasons I have ever seen for a series, much less a horror-themed series. It actually wraps up really, really well. The whole show was conceptualized as a three-chapter tale with two seasons representing one chapter. I'd say that the first chapter wrapped up, but introduced what would be going on in the second chapter - so yeah, there was some cliffhangers, but at the same time, there was a lot of resolution. However, because it was so good, it only made me all the madder when HBO pulled the plug.

Excellent example of what Carnivale's wrap-up was like. Exactly along the same lines. Wrapped up the current arc, but introduced the new one.

I was really, really blown away by the critics and Surface. Out of the three "alien" (Surface, Invasion and Threshold), I thought Surface did it the best. I liked Invasion and sort of liked Threshold, but Surface had a story that moved along at a fast pace and was interesting. A little corny and predictable at times, but fun.

I'm sure it will make it, if only for the buzz it generated at the start. I am happy they are finally moving the story along, but still a little tenative about it. I am still not at all convinced that the writers aren't just making it up as they go. If that turns out to be the case, it will be a major letdown.

It stinks that it wasn't given a third season.

And neither was Masters of Horror this year. I guess the budget or something didn't come through in time. We're going to have to wait.

HBO has been really strange lately. Carnivale, Deadwood, The Sopranos, Six Feet Under... All gone? For what?

Garris just made a deal for a NBC (I think) Summer series called Fear Itself, which pretty much will be season three of Masters of Horror - albeit toned down for broadcast television.

Oh no. Not toned down. sigh. Well, better that that nothing at all.

Yeah, so HBO, I agree. For awhile, movie station tv shows were a plenty. Those ones, Rome, and OZ were all watched here. I really miss Carnivale.

Those HBO shows are pretty pricey. The number 2 rated show, DEADWOOD, cost a fortune and most likely won't see a return on the money. Even worse was ROME, a far costlier show that received even lower ratings. I remember reading about the poor numbers after the first season the serious doubt of a second. My only guess is that a second season was made to CUT looses due to the cost of the sets (if you got 'em, put 'em to use and pray for foriegn sales).

Carnivale was also cancelled due to shrinking ratings. The creator of THE SOPRANOS wanted to end his show years ago. I'm not sure why SIX FEET UNDER was cancelled, I don't know what the ratings were like.

I remember reading an interview with Luke Perry where he talked about guesting on OZ for a few episodes. He said the budget was so small that nobody, including the featured players, received more than scale.

I've tried watching HBO's new graphic sex show (whose title I can't remember) and found it depressingly bleak. No going back for seconds on that one...If i'm going to make the switch to showtime, i guess i need to do it tonight before dexter airs....

Even though it's not horror-related, Californication is kind of funny and I find myself watching it every chance I get. Duchovny gets the chance to be the wiseacre he always on the verge of being during the X-Files but could never embrace.

By the way, I'm just so stinking happy this place is back on the web. This forum is comfortable and a nice sight at the end of the day!

How could I forget ROME?! I loved that one as well and enjoy McKidd's new one - JOURNEYMAN as well.

The second season of ROME was a contractual issue. They had agreed upfront to co-produce (with BBC I think) two seasons of the show, so they had little choice but to proceed. The good part was that they knew it would be the last upfront, so they wrapped the story up the best they could - The second season covered several years in the characters' lives, which was a bit hard to follow.

I haven't seen CALIFORNICATION yet, but watched some of THE TUDORS and plan to watch the rest soon. I also skipped TELL ME YOU LOVE ME (I think that is the sexually explicit show). Seems like most of what I am watching is Showtime lately. However, HBO has got TRUE BLOOD and PREACHER in development right now, so hopefully they will turn things around.

Daphne - Glad to have you back as well!

Thank you.

So, I've caught Reaper a few times. It's a one-hour comedy about this kid who finds out his parents sold his soul to the devil to pay off a debt, so now he has to reap souls for him. His older brother hates him, and his parents are fairly unapologetic.

In the first episode, he used a Dustbuster to catch a demon. He used a toaster in the last episode. It's pretty harmless. He works at a Home Depot ripoff, and his best friend is your basic stand by Jack Black character.

My daughter, Thing Two, loves it of course. It must be geared towards a younger audience.

If you crossed the shows Scrubs and Supernatural, you'd get this show. Speaking of, did anyone see the season premier of Supernatural? I missed it!!!! Aggh.

It's on at the same time as the Office, and I made the mistake of watching the Office. I forgot I can watch the Office online at NBC in whole two days after it airs.

Daphne,

Check out - http://www.cwtv.com/cw-video/supernatural - they have the full episodes of Supernatural there, including both new ones. I have the same conflict with The Office, but I just DVR them both and watch them shortly afterwards.

The thing that really ticks me is that CW's regular channel broadcast (not the HD channel) here in Portland actually opted to crop the shows and not broadcast them in their correct aspect ratio. I've complained, but got some excuse that if they didn't, other shows would be out of proportion or some such nonsense. So I have had to set the DVR to tape the HD broadcasts of Reaper, Smallville and Supernatural, which takes up a crazy amount of space. They are the only network that does this here.

I love Reaper though. That show cracks me up. The guy that plays his friend seems much more suited for that Jack Black role than his previous role on Invasion. But hey! Reaper is set near you Daphne!

REAPER became a favorite with teh first episode. I laughed more heartily than I do at MY NAME IS EARL (the only sitcom I find worth watching, although THE OFFICE finally grew on my last season). Kevin Smith's pilot was directedly as stiffly as his filmwork, but the Jack Black-ish sidekick had me in tears.

TELL ME YOU LOVE ME, that's the title I was searching for.

I opted to add Showtime rather than drop HBO....my wallet is going to suffer...new car, new camera, new channels....need a new job to pay for it all....

For a few weeks, you could download the pilot of CALIFORNICATION off of netflix...boobs and all. For some reason I just assumed it would be censored. It's funny, but it's also more proff that Duchovney is just a one note actor. Fortunately, he does work that I like.

While not horror, one show that I've fallen in love with is PUSHING DAISIES. Sweet and funny, which make the dark overtones all the more biting.

Completely agree on Reaper. Juvenile to a degree, but downright hilarious. I was a little worried that they would lose their edge in consecutive episodes (without Smith), but have done a great job of keeping it going.

I also love Pushing Daisies but not quite sure what to make of it. It is pretty relevant considering how macabre it has been already. A light-hearted, heart-warming approach to death. How brave! I have taken to describing it as "Arrested Development meets Dr. Seuss via Tim Burton," but am not sure that sums it up well enough.
