this is an old 70s series; the storyline revolves around a newspaper-jornalist who investigates strange cases that involves all manners of unxplained horror like cults, demons, the supernatural etc.
Does anyone know of this series and its name?

That show was called "Kolchak: The Night Stalker". Darren McGavin played the title role. The series came about after two "Kolchak" TV-Movies recieved high ratings.
The first film, "The Night Stalker", was about a vampire. The second one was about - well, guess what? - A mad strangler. ;^)
