During 1995, I think, there was a show that came on that quickly became one of my favorite shows ever. It was called American Gothic, starring Gary Cole and Lucas Black. I missed the very first episode and then found 4 episodes were dropped by CBS during the one season it aired.

The entire series, including the 4 skipped episodes, are sitting on my tv cabinet now. I have not had time to start watching them.

If anyone wants to rent the series and watch it during the same time I do, let me know. I'm going to hold off for a few more days before plunging in.

If you are old enough to remember this series vividly, do you have a favorite episode? As a bug-lover, mine had to be the museum episode with the flesh-eating beetles.

So far, the series has been more than I remember. Some of it has been downright Twin Peaks. Some of it has been mundane. What's been interesting has been the small bit players who are now bigger. Arnold Vosloo (the mummy) was in episode two and N'bush Wright was in episode three.

Throughout this all, what surprises me is that until now, it never occurred to me how sincere the South Carolina characters have been. I used to think they were stereotypes. But, having a great friend from South Carolina, I've been reassured this is par for for the course.

Can't wait to find the episodes with no "airing" date. Those were the ones not shown.

When I'm done, I'll be watching all the commentary.

Daphne,

I keep meaning to follow-up on this and see what you thought. The series is available through Netflix (with some episodes on their Watch Now!) and have been considering giving this another go after so much time. Worth it?
