The Seelbach Hotel
I have heard the story of the Lady in Blue so many times in the past, that when I decided I would come to Louisville to visit Waverly Hills Sanatorium, I could think of no better place to stay then at the hotel she was alleged to haunt. Fortunately, I found a great deal through their site for a reasonable price and booked it.
When I arrived and was going through the check-in motions, I saw a set of elevator doors off to the left. I couldn't help myself and had to ask the man behind the desk if those were the elevators of the Lady in Blue. He just smiled and pointed past my left shoulder to another set of elevator doors on the Mezzanine Level, which you could see from the lobby. He also said she was spotted on the eighth floor elevator doors as well, fitting with what I had read. Other than that, he didn't have much more to say about the Lady in Blue.
Since I had booked a cheap rate online, I had no idea where I would end up. Much to my surprise, I was given a room on the eighth floor, which is the floor of many stories and not just the Lady in Blue. I had planned to talk with Larry Johnson, the Concierge and respected historian of the hotel, but he wasn't on-duty at the desk at the time. I was pretty beat from my long drive and tour of Waverly Hills, not to mention had checked my car in with the valets and had no desire to get it back again, so decided to head to my room. It turned out to be a wonderful room. I was equally happy to find a book written by Johnson about the hotel and quickly read through it. It turned out to be quite helpful with many more stories I had never heard about the place.
After dinner down at the bar (the restaurant had something called a "dress code" and apparently shorts and t-shirts don't count), I wandered around the hotel for some time exploring. It is a very beautiful hotel and well maintained and all the staff was extremely helpful. However, I came up short on the whole paranormal encounter again, chalking up the Seelbach to be another "haunted" place that had nothing in store for me. After doing this for several years, you kind of get used to that though. But it was a nice place and I'd be happy to go back. |
