I used to work there back in the early 80's. I got to know a lot of the inmates. Some were good people that just went down the wrong road and others were evil people. Although they all would tell you they were innocent I did meet one inmate that I truly believed was innocent. He was serving 99 years for 1st degree murder of a woman from Memphis. His name was Patrick (Shorty) Powers. I learned from his daughter many years ago that he died from a stroke in prison. He worked in the guards dining room cooking and preparing meals for us.
I was very young and learned many things about people and myself. Wouldn't trade the experience for anything in the world.

I was at the old prison today taking a few exterior pictures .
We were approached and told the entire compound is closed and is no trespassing. They were very polite and not rude unlike some security folks can be at least so we left without incident still it is off limits to the public
