Laff Land
Sylvan Beach Amusement Park is home to the Laff Land dark ride. Laff Land was added to the park in 1954 and was designed and built by the now defunct Pretzel Ride Co. of New Jersey. The company took its name from the twisting shape of the dark ride tracks. The company invented the first dark ride back in 1928 and held the patent until 1979.
Almost every scare gag (or stunts as dark ride enthusiasts call them) inside the dark ride at Sylvan Beach Amusement Park is original to it, with only two "new" gags having been added in the more than a half century of its operation. The park refurbishes rather than replaces the equipment. It makes for an attraction that is both a scary ride and a sort of museum of dark rides past. Inside Laff Land you will encounter an assortment of devils, skeletons and ghouls for a total of twenty stunts before the two minute ride is finished.
A Blast from the Past
Built in the 1880s, this amusement park has retained a lot of its various attractions over the years even while bringing in new rides. This amusement park features a number of rare rides and arcade machines from bygone eras. While it no longer has the wooden roller coaster that was first built there, it has a carousel that was installed in the 1890s that is still in operation. In the wooden floored arcade building you can find arcade machines representing each decade going back to the 1930s. Sylvan Beach is one of only eleven amusment businesses to still offer classic game Fascination; a game in a similar vein to Skeeball.
