Hazelhurst, Mississippi
This is the birthplace of famed blues legend, Robert Johnson (May 8, 1911).  Legend has that Johnson returned to this town in the thirties to find his father, but never located him.  However, it was during that Johnson was tutored by guitarist Ike Zimmerman here in Hazelhurst, and suddenly transformed from a mediocre guitarist to one of the best of his times.  Much has been made about Johnson's rumored deal with the devil and the story of Zimmerman only adds to it.  Zimmerman was known to tell people that he learned to play the guitar while sitting on a tombstones at midnight.

The Robert Johnson Center and Tour
This center is run by The Robert Johnson Blues Foundation, started by descendants of the "King of the Delta Blues."  The center contains artifacts and memorabilia about Johnson and also offers a starting point for the Robert Johnson Walking and Driving Tour.  The tour retraces Johnson's time in Hazelhurst from 1930 to 1931.  The Foundation also holds an annual Robert Johnson Blues Foundation's Music Festival in Hazelhurst in May.
