The Salem Witch Trials
Danvers, when it was known as Salem Village, was one of the communities caught up in the Salem Witch Trials. All eighteen hangings that occurred during this tragic period were actually held in Danvers.
Arkham Asylum
Danvers State Hospital may have been the model for H.P. Lovecraft's fictional "Arkham Asylum". It was directly mentioned in some of his work. The abandoned mental hospital buildings served as the setting for the horror film Session 9, which was filmed on location.
A Short Distance as the Broom Flies
Danvers is less than a five mile drive from Salem, MA. This makes it an excellent place to find affordable lodging within short distance of Salem (The lodging in Salem can be pricey and rooms can be booked years in advance for the month of October).
