Portland Walking Tours
This group provides several different walking tours of the city of Portland, Oregon. While the themes vary depending on each tour, there are two of their tours that apply to the dark and macabre.
Underground Portland
A tour that exposes visitors "to the socially underground and the subterranean underground," according to their website. This tour includes the seedier past of Portland, including crimes, scandals and notorious personalities. The tour also includes the stories of the infamous "Shanghai Tunnels" of Portland, where many a man was drugged, kidnapped and shipped off to the high seas as an unwilling member of a ship's crew. Portland Walking Tours has self-rated the tour "PG-13" for its often graphic stories about Portland's past. They warn that those looking for a more family-friendly or haunted version of the tour to instead try out their other tour Beyond Bizarre.
Beyond Bizarre
This tour is dedicated to the strange and paranormal world of Portland. During Beyond Bizarre, visitors will be armed with ghost hunting equipment to search for the paranormal under Old Town Pizza and the entrance to the "Shanghai Tunnels." There is also a stop at "Portland's single most haunted site," White Eagle, where guests explore the top floor of the famed haunted location. There are plenty of other stories of the paranormal and odd traditions and beliefs in the city. It is offered in a family-friendly version earlier in the night or the 21-and-over tour on select nights. The latter goes a bit farther with the stories and also offers a pre-tour drink.
