Information
Forest of Fright
This Halloween haunted attraction is located in Philo, Ohio (some 60 miles outside Columbus) and is the embodiment of a lifelong dream by owner Vicki Bader. Together with her husband and family, Bader got to work on the haunt in 2005 and unleashed the Forest of Fright on the unsuspecting world during the Halloween season in 2006.

A veteran guest of the more standard haunted house-type attractions in the area, Bader sought to put a unique spin on the attraction by setting it outdoors. As such, Forest of Fright is set on a 45-acre wooded farm, with an estimated three acres dedicated to the haunt. Approximately 35-40 volunteers fill in the roles of parking attendants, ticket booth, security, as well deputies from the Muskingum County Sheriff's office on-hand as well.

The thrills inside the Forest of Fright are a combination of special effects, fog machines, strobe lights, sound and lighting effects, animatronics, props, and of course, live actors. Though still fairly young on the scene, the haunt continues to attract more and more guests in each new season. For returning guests, the haunt reinvents itself each season to offer new scenes and thrills.

The Attraction
The night starts off fairly uniquely for guests to the Forest of Fright when a "haunted" Ghoul Bus charters the guests from the parking lot over a quarter of a mile down a one-lane road to the attraction itself. From there, visitors purchase their tickets and are then ushered in to the three-acre haunted woods, following a haunted trail that is a quarter-mile long and features around 14 different scenes, set in small buildings. At the halfway point, the guests are thrust into a dark maze set in the deep, dark woods. All along the way, various shocks and surprises await the guests alongside the trail.

The haunt also offers entertainment by a DJ every night as well as a concession stand for refreshments. And for those that managed to get through the haunt and think they are safe, there is always the Ghoul Bus ride back to the parking lot.
