Information
Charles Addams
This house was the primary childhood home of dark humor cartoonist Charles Addams. While his family moved around a bit during the first eight years of his life, they settled in this home from 1920 until 1947. Here, the young Addams grew up on the works of Edgar Allan Poe and Arthur Conan Doyle. His twisted sense of humor was evident early in life. He once told a story about how he played a prank that nearly gave his mother a heart attack. Addams climbed into the house's dumb waiter and used the pulley system to raise himself to the upper floor where his grandmother was. When she opened the door to see what had come up the dumb waiter, he popped out, scaring her nearly out of her shoes.

There is a chalk drawing of a skeleton in the garage that is believed to have been drawn by Addams himself. A sign is posted outside the home designating its landmark status.
