Salem Witch Trials
This small park once held the Salem Village Parsonage. It is the starting point of the Salem Witch Trials. Here lived the family of Reverend Samuel Parris and their slave Tituba. Tituba told scary tales to Parris's daughters and other local girls. When the girls began behaving oddly, they blamed Tituba as having bewitched them.
In order to protect herself from execution, Tituba falsely confessed and named other locals as witches... thus spreading the accusations and panic that led to this dark chapter in North America's history.
The parsonage was also the former home of Reverend George Burroughs. Burroughs was also accused of witchcraft and executed.
The park displays the excavated foundation of the parsonage along with signs detailing the events that took place there in history.
