Jim Warfield's Whimsical Haunted House
The Raven's Grin Inn is an unique haunted attraction in Mount Carroll, Illinois. It is the home eccentric artist, Jim Warfield. It is also a functioning fun house with a history of being haunted. Built in 1870, this former school, brothel, speakeasy and car dealership has been the sight of hauntings since the 1920's. Jim has covered and filled the large structure with his bizarre and spooky creations. He's also modified the structure to include items like a slide that drops you from a bedroom down five floors into a sub-basement. There is a UFO on the roof of the house, underground tunnels below and a large number of unusual items to be found in-between (including the "World's Smallest Chainsaw").
The actual haunting of the house seems to be focused in the wine cellar (below the basement). There is a lady in white that appears in the Northeast corner of the cellar. Ghostly lights and voices have been witnessed in the upper levels of the house.
During tours, Jim will discuss haunted happenings in the house as well as demonstrating the whimsical additions he has brought to the place. As another option, guests can reserve the house for games of hide-and-seek rather than taking a tour. The attraction is open throughout the year. Check the web site link below for details.
