Since 2006, an anual zombie walk event has been held in Washington, DC.
Participants dress up as the flesh-eating cinematic version of the zombie as introduced in George Romero's 1968 film Night of the Living Dead rather than the original voodoo zombie. The participants then gather in an arranged meeting place and proceed in a form of parade that involves lurching rather than marching. The zombie walk eventually terminates at a predetermined location.
The zombie walk in DC for 2007 will feature participants attempting to set a world record with other groups around the world for the biggest mass performance of the zombie dance from Michael Jackson's Thriller. The Washington DC Zombie Lurch also features a costume contest and an after party.
