Vertex Night Club
The Vertex Night Club (also known as Club Vertex or simply just Vertex) is well into its second decade of operation in the Rochester, New York area. Vertex provides a dark gothic setting for its patrons. The black painted walls are adorned with images both gothic and Lovecraftian. A suit of armor stands sentry near the stairs leading up to the second floor. Simulated flame pots hang from the ceiling and a large screen over the dance floor shows music videos and horror films as dark music spun by the DJ pulses from speakers on the walls.
The Vertex Fire
Up until July of 2000, the original Vertex was located on Rochester's Liberty Pole Way, not far from its current location. On July 21, 2000 at around 10:00 pm a fire broke out on the roof of the club. The fire, which had been caused by recent repairs to the roof, fortunately caused no injuries as the fire happened an hour prior to the club opening for business and nobody was inside at the time. While firefighters were able to get the fire under control within an hour, the place was wrecked and eventually the building was torn down.
The club's DJs and regulars kept the Vertex scene alive by holding "Vertex on the Road" gatherings at other local clubs such as GQ and Club Piranha on a weekly basis. After many months of drifting in this fashion, Vertex found its new home in the building that had formerly housed the Freakazoid night club. It is now nearing a decade in that location which, as luck would have it, is right next to a fire station.
Visiting Vertex Night Club
Depending on which DJ is working on a given night, the music at the club can vary among goth, alternative, metal and electronic. There is a door charge to get in. The club is a popular place to celebrate Halloween and holds an exclusive by-invitation-only Christmas party every year. In the past the club has also been known to host themed raves and other special gatherings. On June 6, 2006 the club hosted a 6/6/6 party that required patrons to dress as either a devil or an angel in order to attend. Themed carnival attractions at the event raised money for charity. Other special events at the club have included a 3D Rave where clips from classic 3D films were shown with a number of DJs rotating throughout the evening.
The night club features two floors with a bar on each, a dance floor that covers a good portion of the second floor, a pool table, dart board, lounging areas, and a large outdoor patio/deck.
