Jack the Ripper?
Jack the Ripper suspect, Dr. Francis Tumuelty, was known to perform back-alley abortions in the rear of the old Reynolds Arcade building. The office building was torn down years later and rebuilt as it is now.
Around the same time across the street from Reynolds Arcade is the Talman Building. Frederick Douglas had his office and published his abolitionist newspaper from there. It is weird to think that it is possible that Jack the Ripper was illegally aborting fetuses across the street from where Douglas was working to spread freedom.
"Rattlesnake" Pete Gruber also had an office in Reynolds Arcade where he milked rattlesnakes for their venom.
