The Great Houdini
Harry Houdini was a magician whose illusions were so convincing that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle believed that Houdini had discovered actual teleportation. Houdini was a long-time adversary of Spiritualism and made a habit of exposing mediums as frauds. Some theorize that this quest of his ultimately lead to his murder. Houdini died on Halloween 1926 of what was believed by doctors to be blood poisoning from a burst appendix.
Every year for the next ten years on the anniversary of his death, his Wife Bess would conduct a seance to attempt channeling his spirit from the beyond. Stubbornly, Houdini's ghost continued to debunk Spiritualism by refusing to appear. He continues this trend as even now some gather on Halloween and attempt to summon the ghost of Houdini.
Lovecraft & Houdini
H.P. Lovecraft ghost-wrote the pulp story Imprisoned with the Pharaohs for Harry Houdini with Houdini as the main character. Also known as Under the Pyramids, the story appeared in Weird Tales Magazine.
