Field of Screams
This Halloween haunted attraction started back in 2003 and has been scaring visitors every October since. The attraction is located at Prairie Pines in Maize, Kansas, just outside of Wichita. The adult-orientated haunted attraction is a production from Prairie Pines Festivals LLC and has even developed an elaborate back-story to accompany their haunt.
The Story
The story concerns the family known as the Spurlock clan (headed by Jebediah Spurlock) that took possession of the 30-acre property on the sixth month of the sixty-sixth year of the last century. Neighbors were immediately suspicious of the family and grew even more concerned when the family's crops became wild looking and unkempt and gave off strange smells to the passers-by. When people started disappearing, the local community grew even more uneasy and rumors of witchcraft, cannibalism, and devil worship began to grow. Parents began to tale their children to "...beware of where the fields are sick."
When a local boy suddenly disappeared after being dared to enter the property, the citizens grew angry. However, the local police were unable to turn up any evidence of wrongdoing and couldn't charge the family with anything. At that point, the community took matters into their own hands and a small group of men entered the property to exact their own justice. No one was quite sure what happened next, but the men were massacred and left in gruesome poses and displays. As for the Spurlock clan, they had completely disappeared with no trace.
When no sign of the Jebediah Spurlock or his family was ever uncovered, the locals began to talk of a deal he must have signed with the devil. In exchange for their souls, the Spurlocks would return to their field every October and once again hunt for unsuspecting victims.
The Attraction and Information
Aside from the field itself where the Spurlock family still roams, the attraction also features a graveyard, the 2,000 square-foot Spurlock home, and even an underground butcher shop. The price of admission covers all the various attractions. During the month of March 2009, Field of Screams introduced the Spring Scream, which brought the haunt back for a limited engagement for spring break.
