The Vampires of Exeter

In each case, the girls most likely died of Tuberculosis and vampirism was the excuse given for why other relatives were falling sick and dying.

In 1799, when the Tillighast children fell ill and began dying off beginning with young Sarah, the family began to suspect supernatural involvement in the misfortune. Sarah's siblings made claims that Sarah was coming to them at night and sitting on their chests. When Stuckley dug up the bodies of his deceased children, Sarah's body was reportedly found fresh looking and with a cruel smile on its lips. Stuckley Tillinghast removed her heart with a knife and burned it, as per New England vampire tradition.
Ruth Ellen Rose
