Information
Ghosts of the Road
There a variety of accounts of different apparitions that appear on Calvary Avenue (also known as Calvary Drive), which separates Bellefontaine Cemetery and Calvary Cemetery.  One is of a girl in a white dress that would flag down drivers and ask for a ride down the road.  As they passed the main gates of Bellefontaine Cemetery or the driver would get to their ultimate destination, the girl would suddenly vanish from the backseat. She is so embedded in the folklore of Saint Louis that she has even received her own nickname - Hitchhike Annie. She has also been reported on other nearby roads, but most sightings appear to take place on Calvary Avenue.

A very different apparition is said to haunt the road as well. The are several reported sightings of a young boy in 1800's garb (or a woman dressed all in black) who would suddenly step on the street and into the path of oncoming traffic.  As surprised drivers slammed on their brakes, the apparition would suddenly disappear before their eyes.
