The Bates Motel and Haunted Hayride
This haunted attraction located at the Arasapha Farms just outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania has become one of the most well-known and respected haunted hayrides in the United States. The attraction was started in 1990 to experiment with other avenues of income on the farm and as a social event by owner Randy Bates and his family. It has since turned into the main source of income on the farm and a family affair, with all members pitching in. In total, The Bates Motel and Haunted Hayride has just under 100 employees and tens of thousands of visitors each year.
The Halloween haunted attraction has gained a reputation over time, gaining national and international attention. Aside from being a frequent spot on the Travel Channel's ongoing annual special, America's Scariest Halloween Attractions, The Bates Motel and Haunted Hayride has been featured on the likes of CNN, USA Today, and received rave reviews from virtually every magazine and Web site dedicated to Halloween haunted attractions.
The Attractions
Haunted Hayride - Considered by many to be the main draw to the farm, the hayride is often cited as one of the best in the world. It is a 20-minute wagon ride that descends into the forest of the farm, where guests are treated to top-of-the-line special effects, pyrotechnics, stunts, computer controlled animations, choreographed music, and a wide-variety of creepy monsters and sets to terrify their passengers.
Bates Motel - All the bells and whistles of the hayride, but set in a 4,000-square-foot haunted mansion. Visitors need to be on the lookout for all sorts of crazed creatures including demented clowns.
Haunted Corn Maze - The special effects and creepy sounds are on display in this attraction as well. A tall cornfield is transported into a twisting maze of scarecrows, graveyards, zombies and other creatures.
