The Robert Blake Murder Trial
On May 4, 2001, Bonny Lee Bakley, the wife of actor Robert Blake was shot in the head while sitting in her husband's car at the corner of Woodbridge Street and Tujunga Avenue. She had just finished having dinner with Blake at Vitello's Italian Restaurant prior to being shot. According to Robert Blake, he had left his wife alone in the car in order to retrieve a handgun he'd accidentally left in the restaurant. He claimed that the gun was necessary due to threats that had been made enemies of Bonny's. Robert Blake would soon be accused of committing the murder and another sensationalized Hollywood murder trial ensued.

Bonny Lee Bakley had spent years conning lonely men out of their money. Sometimes she even married them and divorced shortly after to accomplish her goals. Robert Blake was tenth in line in a large string of husbands, some of which she'd only been married to for a day or more. Bakley exhibited a fascination with celebrity and courted a number of personalities in the Hollywood area, including Marlon Brando's son, Christian. Bakley had been dating Christian at the time she met Blake. She got pregnant with a child she initially believed to be Brando's child, but paternity tests revealed to be the child of Blake. Robert Blake married her shortly after. During the short time of their marriage, Bonny resided separately from her husband in a guest house on his property.

Ultimately, after a lengthy trial process (during which the defense argued that Christian Brando was possibly the killer), Robert Blake was acquitted of his wife's murder. Much like O.J. Simpson before him, Blake found himself acquitted of murder in the criminal trial only to find himself successfully sued by Bakley's relatives in a civil suit deeming him responsible for her death.
