Arizona's Original Scream Park
This Halloween haunted attraction in Scottsdale can boast to be one of the longest running haunts in the state of Arizona. It got its start in 1997 and has only grown in the years since. Alternatively known as the Ultimate Haunted Attraction in its early days, Arizona's Original Scream Park is the brainchild of director Jim Jacobsen. Like many Halloween haunts, this attraction sticks with its four signature attractions (see below) in a given year, but shakes things up so visitors that return the following year will find something new.
The build-up for the next season begins only weeks after the previous year has been closed and progresses until the Halloween season. Unlike other haunts, Arizona's Original Scream Park relies less on animatronics and prefers the live monster approach in getting their screams. That is not to say that there aren't a few pressure plates or trigger eyes that trigger special effects and traps. The attraction is spread out over a ten-acre park and offers various alternatives to the four main haunts, such as tarot and palm readings, concessions, a Gory Glow Booth, and more. One of the more interesting additions is a ride dubbed The Last Ride - a coffin ride that simulates being buried alive.
The Attractions
Probably the most popular attraction at Arizona's Original Scream Park is Alice's House of Nightmares. The attraction is described as a really twisted version of Alice in Wonderland, complete with torture chambers, the tearoom, and a visit from the Queen of Hearts. Those that prefer outdoor attractions will want to check out Goldminer's Revenge; a recreation of an old west ghost town that features wooden bridges, saloons, and even a walk down an old mine shaft. Another stop is the Castle of Darkness, which is set at an old medieval castle that is host to mummies, zombies, and dungeons of course. The final attraction is the 3D experience, 3D Fear Factory. Inside, the 3D paintings come alive via the use of special glasses are designed to exploit the most common of fears.
