The Stand
In Stephen King's The Stand, the Lincoln Tunnel is the scene of character Larry Underwood's harrowing escape from the island of Manhattan. After civilization is destroyed by the plague known as Captain Trips Larry crawls through the pitch black Lincoln Tunnel, over abandoned cars and decaying corpses in his attempt to reach the mainland. The pages dealing his experiences in the tunnel are perhaps the most tense moments of the novel.
