Clifton Haunted Trail
The Clifton Haunted Trail is technically a haunted attraction, but in many ways it is more of a Halloween event. The annual event takes place on a single evening in October each year. A town committee plans and stages the event at Randolph Buckley Park (also known as Eight-Acre Park) on Chapel Street in Clifton. Along the wooded trail, visitors witness a number of skits and scenes put on by local families and organizations such as local Boy and Girl Scout troops and the VpStart Crow Productions theatrical group. The Haunted Trail has been a Clifton tradition since October of 2000. It has been held yearly except for 2006, when a bridge along the trail was washed out by a flood and 2008 when it was canceled due to poor weather. The event is quite an undertaking as there is no electricity in the park and generators and power cords have to be setup throughout to power lights and other electronic effects and gear. More than a hundred volunteers set up and run the event. The park is haunted by different creatures of the night each year, though local legend the Bunny Man has been known to leave his bridge (see Bunny Man Bridge) to menace walkers along the trail with his ax.
Attending the Clifton Haunted Trail
The Clifton Haunted Trail typically runs for only five hours, with the first hour of the event being toned down for small children. Children attending the event may wear costumes, but masks are not allowed. Extra parking is available at other locations in the vicinity of the park, with hayrides being provided to ferry patrons from the extra parking areas to the event at the park. Participants are able to vote on which scene they liked best at a booth at the end of the trail.
The Clifton Haunted Trail also features refreshments, including hot apple cider and baked goods. Another aspect of the event is Monster Movies Under the Moon, where PG movies such as Ghost Busters and Young Frankenstein are shown outdoors. For details on the current year's event such as date and cost of admission, see the town of Clifton's web site listed below. |
