Boris Karloff
Legendary horror actor Boris Karloff's memorial is at the Garden of Remembrance at Guildford Crematorium, the site of his cremation. While an actor with a large number of films under his belt by 1931, it was Karloff's role as the monster in James Whale's Frankenstein that took him from poverty and made him a legend. The makeup design and behavior of Karloff's character in this film would forever be associated with Mary Shelley's fictional creation. To this day most depictions of Frankenstein's Monster feature neck bolts, platform shoes and a flat-topped head.
The role also led to Boris Karloff being typecast as a horror actor. During the rest of his life horror and suspense film roles would dominate his career.
