Roundtown Players/ Memorial Hall
Roundtown Players has been the community theatre in Circleville since the late 60's. the group moved their operations to the second and third floors of Memorial Hall (Built in 1890) in the 1970's. Roundtown Players has been documented in the popular Haunted Ohio series.
Memorial Hall Hauntings: Lower Levels
Before moving to Court St. in 2003, The Pickaway County Library was located on the first floor of Memorial Hall. There, in the Library, workers reported seeing a figure, a Civil war soldier. Some believe he may be one of the soldiers who built the hall. Books would be thrown and moved by themselves. Doors would open and close with no one around.
During a recent investigation, a group of investigators went into the basement for an EVP session. One of them began asking whatever was in the room with them to communicate by lowering the temperature in the room. After a few minutes of this, the investigator was nearly shoved out of his chair by some unseen force.

One of the more popular hauntings in the theatre is the flushing of the men's toilet. Over the years, several of the members of RTP have reported hearing the men's toilet flush when no one was in there. One member in particular was alone in the building one evening. Standing in front of the stage, she heard the toilet flush. Then, to her shock, she listened as the men's room door opened, and footsteps came out, but no one ever appeared with them!
Some have seen a woman in white in the Green Room, sometimes smoking next to a window. They believe her to be an original member who has since past on. Sometimes, folks smell her perfume or cigarette smoke, yet no one has been allowed to smoke in Memorial Hall for many years now. There have been reports of a Civil War Soldier in the Theatre area. He is believed to be the same apparition who appeared in the library.
More recently, several of the members have reported hearing children on the third floor when none have been found to be there at all. One member reported seeing a little girl who disappeared in front of her. A man's voice has been heard in and around the Green Room. Costumes and props have been moved mysteriously.
Several years ago, a director would bring his dog into the theatre during his rehearsals and when he would work on the sets. One evening, the dog was laying on the floor playing as this gentleman worked on the stage. The man realized the dog had become strangely quiet and turned to see if it had wandered off. He turned and saw that the dog hadn't moved, but was laying very low with his fur standing on end, as if terrified. The man himself became quite uncomfortable and felt he needed to take his dog and leave. With much difficulty, he scooped up the canine, and left the theatre. Only a few blocks away, the dog resumed his usual happy personality, as if nothing had happened. |
