The Raven
The rare books department housed in the central library of the Free Library of Philadelphia not only has collections of both Edgar Allan Poe and Charles Dickens...it is also apparently home to The Raven. During his lifetime Dickens owned two ravens. Both were named Grip. The first Grip was written into Dicken's book, Barnaby Rudge: A Tale of the Riots of 'Eighty. The same bird also was reportedly the inspiration for Poe's poem The Raven. Dickens had the cherished pet stuffed upon its death. It now lurks over the collections of both authors at the library in Philly.
