Information
Raw Meat, 1973
Russell Square Tube Station was the scene of a series of murders perpetrated by the cannibalistic descendant of a group of underground workers trapped in a Victorian-era cave-in, in the American-International Pictures release Raw Meat (originally titled Death Line in England). College students, played by David Ladd and Sharon Gurney, stumble across one of the victims, a titled Englishman, slumped on the staircase near the train platform. When they return with a police officer, the man is gone. What the authorities don't know is that he's been taken to the cannibal's lair, deep in the tunnels, where his blood is used in an attempt to nourish...well, I won't spoil it! Donald Pleasence is especially good as the police inspector trying to get to the bottom of things. And Christopher Lee has a brief cameo as a government goon. The scenes taking place in the London Underground were actually filmed at the real Russell Square Station and utilized some great, abandoned tunnels nearby.

Terrorist Bombings of 2005
Real-life horror is commemorated with a plaque inside the main entrance of the station. The names of 26 people who died on a train traveling from nearby King's Cross Station to Russell Square Station as a result of terrorist bombings can be found there. The bombing took place on July 7, 2005.
