Jury selection is still underway this week in the new trial of O.J. Simpson in Las Vegas, Nevada. Soon, what will most assuredly be yet another sensationalistic trial will be underway and Simpson's fate will lie in the hands of his peers. Though the trial is only just about to start, the crime is almost already one year old with the anniversary on this Saturday. On September 13, 2007, O.J. Simpson and accomplices are accused of breaking into Room 1203 in the Palace Station Hotel & Casino and stealing a phone and various sports memorabilia associated with Simpson at gunpoint. Simpson denies the allegations, but admits taking various items he claims were stolen from him at an earlier date.
The trial is just another chapter in the bizarre O.J. Simpson saga that dates back to 1994 when he was accused of murdering his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman, at her home in Los Angeles, California - a crime that Simpson was later acquitted for in criminal court, though found liable in a civil case. The crime has since been dubbed the "crime of the century" for the 20th Century and resulted in countless books, documentaries, etc. that covered the case.
Last year, the New York Times published an article about how the Palace Station Hotel & Casino was already receiving various requests from tourists to stay in the room where it all happened - only two weeks after the alleged crime had been committed. However, the hotel was already turning away the would-be guests and decided against exploiting the seemingly unwanted attention. With the trial just about to begin, it is probably guaranteed that the requests will be pouring in again.
