Celebrate Champ Day at Lake Champlain

While the world debates whether the creature that washed up on the shores of Montauk, New York (and since dubbed the "Montauk Monster") is a raccoon, dog, or some viral marketing for a kids's television show, the good people of Port Henry, New York are prepping for their annual celebration that commemorates their more famous cryptid - Champ. Saturday, August 2nd, is Champ Day in Port Henry. The daylong event celebrates the sightings of a lake monster in the waters of Lake Champlain that some believe date back to 1609 by none other than Samuel de Champlain himself. Port Henry's Bulwagga Bay has even been something of a hot spot for visitors seeking a glimpse of the creature, as evidenced by the town's sighting board that lists well over 100 names so far.

Champ Day features live entertainment, town-wide lawn sales, barbeques, vendors, and even a footrace through the village. And we shouldn't have to remind those lucky enough to attend to keep an eye out on Lake Champlain as well. You never know when the town's most famous resident might make an appearance.

Celebrate Champ Day at Lake Champlain!
