On this date in 1863, the Third Corps of the Confederate Army, led by Major General A.P. Hill, arrived in the small town of Cashtown, Pennsylvania and set up headquarters in a small inn. Only a few days later, a unit under Hill's command would venture into the city of Gettysburg only eight miles away and come under fire by Union soldiers. Rather than retreat, they were ordered to return fire and the Battle of Gettysburg was underway. Cashtown Inn would serve as the headquarters of the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia during the battle and according to some the scars of the battle would leave its marks on the building. Today, as with much of Gettysburg, Cashtown Inn is rumored to house more than a few ghosts that date back to that fateful battle. The haunting of the Inn is so well known that it even attracted the attention of the Sci-Fi series, Ghost Hunters, which aired its investigation of the Inn earlier this year. Their results appeared to confirm that the reputation was well deserved.

Sleep with the ghosts of Gettysburg at the Cashtown Inn.
