Average Rating: 0 (0 ratings)
On this date in 1963, the steamboat known as the Belle of Louisville raced the Delta Queen. The event led to an annual tradition in Kentucky as The Great Steamboat Race. The Belle had been recently rechristened at the time of the race. The boat has gone by two other names in her long career; The Idlewild and The Avalon. Built in 1914, it is the oldest river steamboat still in operation.

It is also said to be haunted by the ghost of its former Captain, Ben Winters.
