If you read serious paranormal case studies or journals that are passed amongst peers you will see that it has a very structured vocabulary. The writings assume the reader knows the application just like peer medial reports and medical terminology. This is my two cents on clarifying major paranormal terms that are often misused or misunderstood. This might save you some time in writing or detail descriptiveness if you do serious paranormal research and also aid your reading...i.e. for publication or consultation or even simply data sharing between groups that want to up their professional documentation.
Amorphous - Having no definite form or shape, spirits and ghosts often appears in mist-like forms or shapes.
Calling Ghost Phenomena - These are ghosts that call out the name of the living in order to get their attention. Audible AND "EVP clarity only".
Ghost Lights - Closely resembling orbs, but are much larger AND brighter (compare to Globule below) in appearance. If you have ever seen a ghost light ( like some of the ones documented in Joplin Missouri you know what I mean. (Research Joplin Spook Light)
Globule - A larger "Glob" resembling an orb. Glob doesn't seem to indicate detail but actually most "globules" are very detailed. The emphasis here is on size tho, not clarity and the name is slightly misleading.
Intelligent Haunting - Paranormal activity that takes place around a person or location that is caused by an intelligent or conscious spirit. The "intelligence here is defined as an entity that will respond to command or conversation. Such as "Are you hear?" and then a sign is given and repeatable. Most mediums are judged on their credibility by their ability to produce a sign from the departed soul attempting to be reached. One conclusion is that the medium is not able to make contact. Another one that can be given in paranormal research is that perhaps this soul is not willing or able to communicate via "intelligent haunting ". This same credibility is often misassigned to locations that are extremely active but simply do not have "intelligent haunting" phenomena. Which is to say it is not "on command."
Novel Haunting - Paranormal phenomena such as apparitions, unexplained sounds, smells or other sensations that are associated over a lengthy period of time with a specific location. This is not on command and is apparently random and undirected.
Inner Manifestation- Manifestation of paranormal activity experienced by a single person. Dizziness, fear, light headed, shortness of breath.
Outward Manifestation - The physical manifestation of paranormal activity. Anything someone besides "you" can experience. In paranormal documentation you will see that Outward Manifestation (Yes or No) is usually a pre-req for any group to investigate. A person getting short of breath or dizzy is not Outward Manifestation even if several people show these symptoms. BUT it isn't Inner Manifestation either. If several people experience physical symptoms it is called "Experiential Manifestations" and may become of interest to an investigative group.
Residual Haunting Phenomena- Believed to be a psychic imprint of a scene that keeps repeating itself. With this type of haunting no interaction with the ghost occur.
Vortex Phenomena- This is a swirling funnel shape when in motion. They can also appear long and narrow and having a tread like design. Some theorize this is a vehicle to transport spirits in the shape of orbs from their realm to ours.
I will post more soon. This should make you more conversational and help in understanding and writing Paranormal content for journals, papers and documentation.
Cheers,
Tobias
